Journal | No-date Planner

Aurdre Lorde said, 'Our feelings are our most genuine path to knowledge.' If we are to learn from this we have to learn to be attentive to our feelings.

Much has come up to be felt, sifted through and released this year. My focus has been coming back to the basics: listening to the body. The prompts in this version of the journal have come from my training and practice as a TRE (Tension and Trauma Release Exercise) provider. Body and Earth. Earth and Body being extensions of one another.

The intention behind crafting it this way is to create pockets of space for you to meet yourself. The intention behind crafting them were to create pockets of space for you to meet yourself with visual and text suggestions that act as doorways.

~ Why make them? ~

A dear friend said she'd love a hand-held reminder that makes the connection between the Outside and Inside a little less separate by bringing many pauses in the day. The art for the stationary was born by marrying artwork inspired by my own practice of connection with the more-than-human world as a gardener and now somatic practitioner (TRE.  Both forms slowing me down to practice living in my feminine and balancing my masculine.

Responsibly Printed

I choose to work with a print shop that values leaving little negative impact on the planet. This means that the printer on which the stationary is printed are one of two printer's in India that do not make any toxic chemical waste while printing. Leaving little or no trace when the stationary's time of active use is up means using only 100% recycled papers of different weights to work with. Always.

~ Giving to Community ~ A portion of all proceeds on Quill and Fern Stationary go towards supporting incredible grassroots organisations working within the community.

Why only do I insist on using only recycled papers?

Because ideas need to be turned into rituals of practice before they become a new habit. Committing to practicing care for the environment in which we live in and are completely dependent on, can be lived by understanding the materials we surround ourselves with and how best to work with them to leave little or no waste or harm to the more-than-human world and to ourselves. Here are some details for the nerd in you...

Did you know that paper fibres can be recycled four – five times?

By choosing stationary that uses only recycled papers, you are choosing not to send waste papers to landfill, which in turn…

• Reduces the release of methane gases, that is formed by burying paper.

• Reducing energy consumption by 31%; which is how much more it takes for the creation of virgin fibre.

• Recycling reduces CO2 emissions by 20% in comparison with incinerating the paper. In keeping with the principles of a circular economy, the carbon emissions are fully offset by the brand of papers we use.

• Producing a tonne of recycled paper takes 35,000 fewer litres of water* than producing one tonne of virgin fibre paper.

If you have read this far, THANK YOU.
